4 Corners

Aim
: To improve footwork and movement.

How: Starting from the ready position always use the dominant foot (racket hand foot) as the reaching or leading one and the non-dominant foot to pivot on.

Travel to each of the four corners in turn making sure to return to the middle each time. In each corner swing the racket as if playing a shot.

Make sure to switch sides and remember to change the grip accordingly depending on whether it is a forehand or backhand corner. Once in a corner use the three step sequence to return to the mid court area.

Repeat this 3 times to each corner.

Progressions:

  • Use the chasse step movement
  • See how many times it can be performed correctly in 30 seconds.
  • Do the same without a racket and touch the ground with a hand in each corner.

Coaching Points:

  • Always make sure to reach with the dominant leg
  • Make sure the grip is being changed correctly
  • Make sure the three step sequence is being used to return to mid court.
