Box It

Aim: To improve serve accuracy.

How: Place 4 targets in the service box diagonally opposite the box player 1 is standing in. There should be one target in each corner. Targets could be things such as boxes, hoops, buckets, or an upside down cone. Something that a shuttle can be caught in.

Player 1 then aims a shuttle at one of the targets, after having a go at one target they move to the next. Go round all targets 5 times and see how many shuttles land in the target. Player 1 can use long, short, drive, and flick serves.

Progressions:

  • Make the targets smaller
  • Do it against the clock

Coaching Points:

  • Make sure the non-dominant foot is in front (except on the backhand short serve)
  • The shuttle must be contacted below waist height
