Touch-hit

Aim
: To improve footwork and movement

How: 2 players are needed for this drill. Player 1 starts as the feeder in the service position on one side of the court. Player 2 starts as the receiver near the baseline on the opposite side of the net, and in the service box diagonally opposite player 1.

Place an object, maybe a cone or racket cover in the middle of the court on player 2's side. Player 1 then hits a high serve to player 2's forehand. Player 2 must return the shuttle with a clear down the line, then move to the object and back to the corner.

Player 1 then hits another high serve and the action is repeated. Do this 10 times then swap to the backhand.

Swap roles and repeat the drill.

Progressions:

  • Make it into a rally. Start in the same way, but after player 2 has returned the shuttle player 1 moves across and plays a clear back in the direction of player 2. Player 2 must still move and touch the object.
