Badminton England

'Badminton England' (BE) was the first known governing body for the sport in the world, established in 1893. They are responsible for all aspects of the game in England, and are based in Milton Keynes. It was formerly known as the Badminton Association of England (BAOfE), and is credited with publishing the first set of official rules and guidelines for the sport. They were also responsible for establishing the All England Championships. Badminton World Federation

Overall responsibility for international badminton now lies with the 'Badminton World Federation' (BWF), as it is recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as the world governing body for the sport. This organisation (formerly known as the International Badminton Federation (IBF)) was established in 1934. There were 9 founder members - Canada, Denmark, England, France, Netherlands, Ireland, New Zealand, Scotland and Wales. The prominance of the sport worldwide has grown immensely in recent times, and there are now more than 150 members of the BWF.

The BWF is split up into five further regional confederations, with jurisdiction in their respective areas.
