    • Complex carbohydrates are starchy foods which contain other nurtients such as fibre, vitamins and minerals

    • Simple carbohydrates are sugar based foods with no other nutritional value

    • Olive oil, sunflower oil, avacoados, nuts



  • How many amino acids are essential and what does this mean?

    • 8 amino acids are essential because they cannot be made within the body and so must be consumed in the diet


  • What are the benefits of having electrolytes in a drink after exercise?

    • Electrolytes are lost in sweat and so must be replaced. Their presence in 'sports drinks' also helps the water to diffuse through the small intestine, back into the body.
