Breakdown Steps

Explanation: This is the most essential skill for footwork and balance. The breakdown steps can be used in both attacking and defending. In attacking they are used to aid the movement when receiving and passing the ball. In defending they are used to shadow the attackers movements when they move to receive or pass the ball.

Description: To perform the breakdown steps a player needs to be running then make the shoulders and feet square to the ball, whilst shortening the stride into choppy steps. Do not cross feet. The feet should be in a staggered position but the weight should be distributed evenly between the balls of the feet.

Then drop the hips by bending the knees, make sure the arms are out in front of the body, and lower the stick to the ground. When slowing down push off the ball of the back foot and step with the lead foot to optain the balanced attack stance, ready to play the ball.

Keep the head up to see options.
