Spin Dribble

Explanation: This is used to protect the ball when turning away from a defender.

Description: To execute the spin dribble ascertain a pivot foot, and use this to turn sideways on to the defender. Keep the body crouched and spin (drag) the ball away from the opponent, towards the forehand or reverse stick side depending which way the opponent is approaching.

Keeping a wide stance here is important to maintain good balance but also to keep the defender further away from the ball. However in hockey players must not stand in the same position blocking the defender, so as soon as the pivot has been executed, look for options or dribble away from the opponent.

Use sidesteps or fakes to deceive an opponent, but remember to keep the ball within the control box.
