Block Attack

Aim: To improve the block tackle.

How: Set up a 5x5 yard square with 4 cones. An attacker stands 1 yard behind one side of the square and a defender starts 1 yard behind the opposite side.

The attacker power dribbles the ball into the square towards the defender. As they do this the defender should engage to the ball with a lead left foot, and perform the block tackle.

Repeat this 5-10 times and then swap roles

Progressions:

Coaching Points:

  • Stay in a defensive stance
  • Attempt to make contact with the lower half of the ball
  • Keep the head of the stick on the ground
