Dribble, Pass, Shoot

Aim: To improve dribbling, passing, and shooting.

How: Set up a starting gate 3 yards wide to the right of the goal, where the shooting circle meets the back line. Then mark out a 3x3 yard square in line with the starting gate but between 16 and 20 yards from the back line. Place another gate 25 yards from goal and 5 yards wide of the left hand post. At least 2 players are needed for this drill.

Player 1 stands in the starting gate on the back line with a ball. Player 2 takes up a position in the starting gate on the 25 yard line. Player 1 dribbles the ball towards the 3x3 yard square. Once they reach the square they must stop the ball, then pass it into the top of the shooting circle or just above it.

As player 1 is stopping the ball, player 2 can begin moving towards the shooting circle, so as the ball gets there they are ready to shoot first time or control the ball and then shoot. They must not move too early though as they do not want to have to stop and wait for the ball.

Player 1 that passed the ball must move to the gate 25 yards from goal, and player 2, after shooting must collect the ball and take it to the starting gate on the back line. The drill is then repeated.

Progressions:

  • Swap the sides of the starting gates
  • Start from wider on the back line so the pass has to be more accurate
  • Introduce a goalkeeper
