Fake 2 Escape

Aim: To improve balance and attacking footwork.

How: Place two cones 2 yards apart to make 1 starting area. Then make another starting area 3 yards away facing the first starting area. Then place a tennis ball 5 yards to the left side in the middle of the start areas. Do the same on the right side of the start areas.

A designated attacker starts in one of the start areas and a defender starts in the other. The attackers job is to use fakes and body movements to gain enough time to run and pick up a tennis ball without being tagged by the defender. So this means the defenders job is to stay balanced and ready to react to the attackers movement, and tag them before they reach the tennis ball on either side.

The defender cannot move forward, or tag the attacker until they have left the start area. Once the attacker leaves the start area this is counted as an attempt. Have 5 attempts and then swap roles.

Progressions:

  • Place the tennis balls further from the start areas.
  • Limit the time the attacker can stay in the start area for.
  • Make the attacker retrieve both balls in the same attempt.
  • Introduce hockey sticks for both players.

Coaching Points:

  • Keep feet shoulder width apart to help maintain balance
  • Move on the power points (balls) of the feet
