Hoop, Step, Jump

Aim: To improve balance and attacking footwork.

How: 4 agility rings, or hoops are needed for this drill. Place the rings or hoops on the ground in a line with 1-2 feet between each one. Hold the hockey stick in the right hand around midway down the shaft.

Start with the left foot in the first ring and use this to push off as to land on the right foot inside the third ring. When landing on the right foot, bring the left foot into the third ring also. After regaining balance, push off the left foot once more and land with the right foot in the fourth ring.

From here push off the right foot to land with the left foot in the second ring. The right foot should follow the left into the second ring, regain balance then push off the right foot again so that the left foot lands in the first ring.

The cycle can then be repeated.

Progressions:

  • Move the agility rings further apart.
  • Do it against the clock and try to improve the time.

Coaching Points:

  • Keep feet shoulder width apart to help maintain balance
  • Move on the power points (balls) of the feet
