In and Out

Aim: To improve balance and footwork.

How: Mark a start and end gate with 2 cones at either end 12 yards apart. Then place 3 more cones evenly spread between the 2 gates. One cone at 3 yards from the start gate, one at 6 yards, and another at 9 yards.

From the start line hold the stick in the right hand halfway down the shaft. When another player or coach shouts go, run as fast as possible in and out of the cones, through the end gate and back down in and out of the cones to the start.

Progressions:

  • Shorten the distance between the cones
  • Add more cones between the start and end gate.
  • Run backwards
  • Dribble a hockey ball
  • Make it into a team relay race

Coaching Points:

  • Try to keep feet shoulder width apart to help maintain balance.
  • Move on the power points (balls) of the feet.
  • Keep looking forward not at the ground.
