Jab Attack

Aim: To improve the jab tackle.

How: 2 players are needed for this drill. One player starts with a ball in front of their stick, with the other player (defender) standing around 6 yards away facing the player with the ball.

The defending player then has to move toward the stationary ball whilst establishing a lead left foot. Once in this position they can perform the jab tackle. The player with the ball must then control the ball after the jab, and try to pass the ball past the lead foot.

As this happens the defender should bring their stick back and take up a defensive stance, keeping the lead foot, with the body slightly crouched.

After 5-10 attempts swap roles.

Progressions:

  • Start further away from each other
  • Use the fake jab

Coaching Points:

  • Keep the head of the stick on the ground at all times
  • Do not change the lead foot
