Obstacle Run

Aim: To improve close control whilst changing direction.

How: Use cones to mark out a 10x10 yard square. Inside of the square place obstacles such as different colour cones, or hockey sticks for players to dribble around.

Start inside the square with a ball. Dribble round avoiding the obstacles and other players. Play for around 30 seconds and then see who hit the least objects within the square.

Progressions:

  • Make the outside square smaller but keep the same amount of obstacles, or even add more obstacles
  • Place a non-tackling defender to stay close to dribblers to add more pressure

Coaching Points:

  • Spread body weight evenly between the balls of the feet to maintain balance
  • Keep the ball within the control box
  • Use changes of speed and direction
