Power Square

Aim: To improve dribbling.

How: Set up a 20x20 yard square with 4 cones. 6 players are needed for this drill. 1 player starts on each side of the square and then the other 2 players start within the square. The 4 players on the outside are passers, 1 of the players in the middle is an attacker and the other is a defender.

The ball starts with one of the passers on the outside of the square. The player with the ball has to decide whether to pass the ball into the attacking player in the square, or to pass to one of the other players on the outside of the square. However the ball must not be passed between the outside players more than 3 times in a row before it goes to the attacking player.

This means it is the attacking players job to create space with quick movement so that they are in a position to receive the ball. Once they receive the ball they must get it under control, and use the power dribble to burst away from the defender, and pass the ball back out of the square. The attacking player receives a point for each time they complete this successfully.

The attacking player gets 1 minute inside the square then swap roles and see who scores the most points.
