Push It

Aim: To improve the push pass

How: Hold the stick in the shake hands grip, and stand side on to a partner with the left side closest to them. Start off around 7 or 8 strides away from a partner. Make sure the ball starts inside of the control box, and use the push pass to move the ball to a partner. The partner then passes it back, repeat this for 10 passes.

Then attempt the same exercise except with the backhand push pass this time.

After completing both of these move further away from each other maybe 14-15 strides apart, and complete the exercise again.

Progressions:

  • Try to pass and control the ball quicker
  • If there are more than 2 players start a competition to see who can pass the most times in 30 seconds.
  • Put a target/gate down made of 2 cones about 1 yard wide. The pair has to pass through this gate for it to count. This will make them concentrate on accuracy.

Coaching Points:

  • Look at the receiver before passing the ball
  • Make sure players have the correct position and technique
  • After making a pass get into the ready position to receive the ball.
