Top of the Table

Aim: To improve shooting accuracy.

How: Using 2 cones set up a goal that is 5 yards wide. Place another cone 10 yards in front and behind this goal, have 1 player stand on each of these cones, with 1 ball between them. Leave at least 7 yards between each goal, and set up 1 goal and starting cones for each pair playing.

Before starting this drill decide which end of the line of goals is the top and which is the bottom. A coach then shouts 'GO' or blows a whistle. Then the player with the ball attempts to shoot, using the quick hit, through the goal, towards the player on the other side. The aim of each pair is to score as many goals as they can in 1 minute. At the end of the minute the coach shouts 'STOP' or blows a whistle again.

The coach then goes round each pair starting from the bottom and asks how many goals they have scored. The team with the highest score will go to the top of the table, and the team with the lowest will move to the bottom.

This drill can be played individually. So scoring more goals than a partner gains a move up the league and scoring less means a move down.

Repeat around 5 times and see who finishes on top.

Progressions:

Coaching Points:
