Aerial Pass Reception

Explanation: Receiving the ball is very important part of the hockey game. If a player is a good receiver with instant control they will have more time and space to threaten their opponents. Gaining control of the ball allows a player to dribble, pass, or shoot.

Description: When receiving an aerial pass get in a position behind the ball, using the shake-hands grip. Raise the stick up off the ground but keep it below shoulder level, bend the knees and distribute body weight evenly between the balls of the feet. The left foot should be in front of the right, and the stick should be angled forward towards the ground, and steady.

The next stage is to transfer body weight to the side from which the ball is coming. The ball should strike the stick below the shoulders, and the angle of the stick should direct it downward. Try to control the ball to the right side of the body. Once the ball is on the ground get into a position where it is possible to dribble, pass, or shoot.
