Forehand Sweep Hit

Explanation: This shot can be used as an alternative to hitting to make long passes. The sweep hit is often more accurate because of the larger impact zone. More power can be produced because of a longer swing and on an artificial surface the ball should run smoothly, which aids the receiving of the pass.

Description: Start side on to the ball, which should be positioned outside of the control box. Take a quick look up to assess the options and select a player to pass to. Then line up so that the left shoulder points towards that player. Grip the stick using the shake-hands position, but with both hands at the top of the handle, close together. The feet should be more than shoulder width apart, with both knees bent at 90 degrees to lower the center of gravity. The ball should be line with the left foot.

From this starting position push forward on the right foot to extend it away from the body. With this shot it is important to use the wrists to move the stick back on a semi-circular path, keep the stick moving throughout the swing. When the wrists reach the line of the hips the stick should be low and parallel to the ground. Then start to transfer body weight from the right leg to the left leg as the hips rotate. When striking the center of the ball the head should be above the hands.

After striking the ball the stick should follow on the same semi-circular path, and players should be facing their intended target. Quickly return to the ready position and look for the next move.
