Chop/Squeeze Shot

Explanation: As with the chip shot, this is another advanced skill which takes a lot of practice to master. It is a useful shot to use when receiving a pass behind the body, or when having to react to a rebound that is rolling past the control box.

Description: To execute this shot players need to point their left (lead) shoulder at the target, and position themselves so that the ball is behind the back (right) foot. The knees should remain bent throughout the shot and the body slightly crouched, with body weight mainly over the back foot.

The hands should be in the close together shake-hands grip. For this shot use a short back swing, and keep the face of the stick closed. When making contact with the ball hands should be in front of it, and with this shot look to strike the back top half of the ball, to make sure it is pushed into the ground.

Even after striking the ball it is important to keep the head down, and eyes on the ball. There is very little follow through with this shot so the arms and stick should stop shortly after making contact with the ball, but they should point in the direction of the target. Transferring body weight forward to the front (left) leg, is the last stage of the shot.
