Scoop/Lob Shot

Explanation: This shot is a useful skill to have when players need to lift the ball high over a short distance. This is often used when the goalkeeper comes off their line, possibly in a one-on-one situation. If a player sees this early enough they can lob the ball over the goalkeeper's head into the goal or even just into the space behind the goalkeeper then run throw and score.

Description: Again with this shot it is important to know where the goal is without necessarily looking at it, as looking up at the target could lose valuable time in executing the shot. To start this shot both the right foot and shoulder should be forward with the right foot in line with, but behind the ball. Place the hands in the shake-hands grip on the stick but have the right hand lower than normal. Keep eyes on the ball throughout the shot.

Open the face of the stick, by lowering the left hand and handle away from the ball, and then place it behind the ball. When doing this step forward with the left foot so that is in line with, but to the side of the ball. Use this movement to drive the body weight forward. Then use the right hand to lift the stick up quickly, underneath the ball, which in turn lifts the ball high in the direction of the target.

The faster players swing their arms up and forward the higher and further the ball will travel. The stick should end up pointing at the target.
