Recovery Tackle

Explanation: With this tackle players still have to concentrate on engaging and giving, jabs and blocks, and maintaining balance with the right combination of footwork. Not only that but they also have to do all of this whilst traveling at top speed to catch up to the attacker.

The aim of the recovery tackle is to keep the ball to one side by running parallel with the dribbler, and if possible get goal side but do not commit too much as this could make it easy for an opponent to go past.

Description: The first stage is to run at maximum speed to catch up with the dribbler, and then try to run parallel to them. Keep the head of the stick on the ground and hold it in the left hand only. Focus on the ball. Try to time the jab attempt when the ball is away from the dribbler's stick, if this is not possible just keep running next to them.

Keep trying to jab or block to the lower half of the ball. If the defender manages to make contact they need to stay close and get in a position goal side of the opponent, because the contact will have made the dribbler slow and possibly lose control. Then attempt to take the ball further from the dribbler, if successful keep the stick on the ball, and look to pass, dribble, or shoot.
