Amsterdam Marathon

The Amsterdam Marathon is becoming increasingly popular thanks to the charming nature of the city and the flat course offering quick times. It has been held annually since 1975, and is generally run in October.

In terms of number of competitors it is a relatively small race, with only about 2000 runners. However it could be said that this certainly adds to the quaint nature of the race. Unfortunatly the number of spectators has also remained fairly low, with the race failing to catch the imagination of the locals.

One of the main draws of the race is the fantastic course, which starts and finishes in the 1928 Olympic Stadium. Visits to the stadium are split by some fantastic views around Amsterdam, making for a genuinely enamoring and attractive race. It is also very conducive to running fast times.

It is one of the biggest road races in Holland - along with the Rotterdam Marathon.
