Great South Run

The Great South Run is a popular annual 10 mile road race which takes place in Portsmouth, England. It has been run every year since 1990. It is part of the 'Great Run' series of events, devised by former Olympic 10,000m bronze medallist Brendan Foster - along with the Great North Run.

The event has become one of the most popular 10 mile races in Europe, and in 2009 saw 21,000 entries.

The elite competition is also recognised as a 'gold label road race' by the IAAF, and thus it attracts a large number of high profile runners. Recent years have seen athletes such as Paula Radcliffe and Mo Farah crowned as champion.
