Tennis - Become A Coach

Why become a tennis coach?

Sports coaching is a very rewarding thing to do. It can help keep you fit, improve your social skills, and give you a genuine sense of achievement. It is also a popular way of staying involved with the game if you can no longer play yourself. Coaches play a crucial role in the development and growth of players at all levels, and without them the knowledge and sport could be lost.

How do I become a tennis coach?

Tennis coaching in England is organised by the LTA.

The first step to becoming a coach is to do a 'Level 1 Coaching Assistant' award. These are held all around the country, and are organised by county associations. This course teaches the basics that you will need to build upon if you decide to continue your coaching education.

If you have completed your 'level 1', there is a clear pathway of awards to progress onto. This is as follows:

Level 1 Coaching Assistant

Level 2 Coaching Assistant

Coach Qualification

Senior Performance Coach Qualification / Senior Club Coach Qualification

If you want to coach tennis at the highest level then progression along the pathway is essential.

For more information about beginning your journey along this pathway, please contact your relevant county association. A full list of which can be found here.
