Practice 4.4 - Power bag

Aim: To develop core movement and rotational technique

Description:

  • Stand with feet shoulder width apart
  • Hold a power bag with both hands in front of the body
  • Make 3 rotational turns
  • Make sure athletes push in the double support phase
  • Release the power bag for height
  • Repeat 3-5 times per set

Coaching points:

  • The athlete should finish in a controlled position
  • Make sure the (right handed) athlete is pushing the power bag at the right foot touch down into each turn. i.e. the right side is pushing around the left foot.

  • 1.1 - Hip flicks both sides
  • 1.2 - D Ball with 1 turn
  • 1.3 - D Ball with 2 turns
  • 1.4 - D ball with 3 turns

Practice set 2

  • 2.1 - Left hand shuttle run
  • 2.2 - Right hand shuttle run
  • 2.3 - Two hand shuttle run
  • 2.4 - Block shuttle run

Practice set 3

  • 3.1 - Medicine ball shuttle run
  • 3.2 - 2 hammer shuttle run
  • 3.3 - 2 hammer reverse pivot
  • 3.4 - Wrap around shuttle run

Practice set 4

  • 4.1 - Olympic bar hang turns
  • 4.2 - Olympic bar on shoulders turn
  • 4.3 - Offset Olympic bar on shoulders turn
  • 4.4 - Power bag
