Drive Through

Aim: To improve drive shot technique.

How: Player 1 starts as the server in this drill. This means player 2 is the receiver. Player 1 hits the shuttle towards the mid court area and on the forehand side of player 2.

Player 2 must then step in the direction of the shuttle and play a drive shot down the line past player 1. The shuttle should land in the mid court area and travel close to the height of the net. Player 2 can hit 10 forehand drives.

Swap roles and repeat the drill.

Progressions:

  • Hit backhand drives
  • Hit cross court drives
  • Make it into a rally but both players can only hit drives, players score a point if they win a rally. First to 10 points wins.

Coaching Points:

  • Make sure grip, footwork and swing are correct.
